Good morning Year 4. I hope you are all well and raring to get down to some work this morning. Just think… only 2 days left of the summer term after today, and then you are in Year 5!
For those of you who attended the picnic on Monday, I’m sure you will remember what Mr Ward told you. I am going to reiterate what he said. Basically, that this school year has seen some incredible events that are unprecedented. You have had more time off school than at any time since the Second World War (which would have been our summer term topic), and even then, school classes were set up in village halls, churches, in fact any large buildings that could accommodate large groups of children. We have not been able to set up direct face to face learning. However, what we have had, is the internet which has enabled us to provide lessons for you, so that you didn’t miss out. There are a wealth of different learning platforms that you can access over the summer. BBC Bitesize, Oak Academy, Top Marks, TT Rockstars - all of these offer lessons and games that you can follow, to help you keep your learning fresh. The school website will still be available to you and any lessons that I, or the other teachers have posted will remain available to you. So, if you have missed some learning, you still have a chance to catch up.
If you can’t access the internet, then read books, write a diary, practise your times tables. This will stand you in good stead for your start in Year 5.
English
Today’s focus is grammar. The web address below takes you to BBC Bitesize site, where there are a range of lessons on different aspects of grammar. I am going to leave you to choose which ones you do. In Year 4 we don’t cover passive and modal verbs, but you do in Year 5. We have covered ‘relative clauses’, but referred to them as embedded clauses. This was when we were focusing on using the 5Ws to add extra detail for our reader. The rest we have covered, but this is a good time to revisit them and make sure you are confident about them and what their role is.

Maths
I hope you have enjoyed the lessons from the last two days. They have certainly sparked discussion in the Year 4 classroom this week, which is great and exactly what they are designed to do.
Today’s lesson is all about number sequences and can be found here:

Science
The final lesson in this unit of Growing Healthy Plants is all about the life cycle of a flower. This can be found here:

Good morning Year 4. It was lovely to see so many of you at the ‘picnic’ yesterday – you have all grown soooo much! I hope you enjoyed seeing your friends again, and the short time we had together. Please do remember what Mr Ward said. If you keep up with some work over the holidays – reading, maths, writing – then you will be in a much better starting place for Year 5.
English
As I mentioned yesterday, this week’s focus is going to be Reading Comprehension. Today’s work is about the Wimbledon Champions can be found here:
If you still want to do some writing, then a great way of keeping up with your skills is to write a diary, of the things you have been doing every day, your thoughts and feelings etc. Alternatively you could write to a relative whom you don’t see very often. I’m sure they would love to hear from you, and it is exciting when they write back.
Maths
Today’s lesson is all about Roman Numerals and can be found here:

Good morning Year 4. I hope you are all well and are looking forward to the weekend. Let’s hope we get some more dry, sunny weather!
English
Yesterday, you were researching an Olympic games or event, using the questions to help you organise your answers. Today you need to plan a non-fiction, information piece to showcase what you found.
Your main title will be your chosen research subject. For example, The Toyko Olympics 1964. Then you will need your sub-headings:
Introduction – when the games were held (dates), any new events, which cities were hosting events, which games was this e.g. 203rd, 88th etc
Traditions – who did they receive the torch from? Who did they hand the torch over to?
Facts about the country – which continent is it on? What is it famous for? Population, Language spoken, climate etc
Events – talk about the events being held. Are there any new ones? Any surprising ones? Brief explanation of what they are.
Records – what new records were set? Were there any surprises?
Results table – which country won the most medals? Who won the most gold/silver/bronze medals?
Mascot – what was it? Describe it.
You may already have some ideas for headings of your own, but if not the above should help you.
Today you need to organise your information ready for writing next week.
Maths
Today I want you to focus on your times tables. If you know them all, practise on Rock Stars and do another Sound Check. If you do not know them all, write your table out, make some cards, practise chanting it, practise that table on Hit the Button.

The next part of our topic, Helping Plants Grow is to learn about the different parts of a flower. Watch this short film clip which tells you about them:

Then, complete the worksheet attached.
Don't forget - I'm looking forward to seeing you at the picnic on Monday!

Good morning Year 4. I hope you are getting on well with the sock Olympics. I have had more scores to ‘add to the door’ as they say. Keep them coming in please (
English
Linked to our Sock Olympics, I would like you to research the Olympic Games. This can be a particular event or a particular games. Things you might like to find out are:
What year were they?
Where were they held?
Who won? How were the medals distributed between different countries?
Were there any new superstars?
Did anything funny happen?
Were there any new events?
Were any records set?
Was there a mascot? What was it? Why was it chosen?
Once you’ve don’t this we will put the information together and write our own information page about them. The reading comprehension you did today will act as you WAGOLL.
Maths
Today’s maths is to compare and classify isosceles and scalene triangles and can be found here:
