Good morning Year 4. I hope you enjoyed the Staying Safe in the Sun activity yesterday. It turns out it was a good day to do it, because you didn’t have to miss any sunshine, as the weather seems to have turned.
English
Last week, I gave you until today to have written and edited your newspaper reports. Well done to Ansh, Millie and Saleha who have already sent theirs to me. I have really enjoyed reading them.
For today I have chosen a reading comprehension about penguins. There are 2 levels of challenge:
Maths
Today you are working with the length measure, although the starter for your work is a recap about time. The lesson can be found here:
https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/measures-length-flag-pole
Science
Our new topic in science is all about growing healthy plants. Some of the tasks involved in the unit ask you to experiment using some real plants. I appreciate this might be difficult for some of you, in the current situation, so I will try and add additional resources that will help you, where necessary. To make sure that we cover the whole topic, I will be posting more science lessons that normal during the week.
Today’s lesson can be found here:

If you are feeling a bit lively you may want to look at these ideas for activities.

Tuesday 30th June 2020
Good morning Year 4, I hope you are all well and raring to go with your learning today.
English
As I mentioned last week, you have today and tomorrow to finish your newspaper reports about the alien landings. If you want me to look at your work, and give you some tips for editing, then please do send it to me at
If you finish writing today, then you can edit tomorrow.
Maths
We are continuing with our measures work today. I hope you were ok with the fruit purchases yesterday. How many different options did you some up with for the £5 spend?
Today, you are working with money again, but this time you are buying food. This is very relevant, as from 4th July restaurants are starting to open again. Looking at some of the food choices here was making me hungry!
https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/measures-money-souvenirs
Remember, once you start the work (which is placing numbers on a number line as a warm up) you need to click the down arrow at the bottom of the screen to find the rest of the worksheets.
Happy spending!
Art
We have been having some exceptionally warm weather this year so far, and unusually, it has started very early in the spring. You know from the work we did on making sunglasses in the autumn term, that you have to protect your eyes in the sun, but there are other things you need to do to protect your skin. Watch the film below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxAsoBXmCJk
I hope you enjoyed it! Your task is to create a poster for KS1 children, which explains to them the dangers of spending too long in the sun, and the 5 things you need to do to protect yourselves.
Also, try and come up with a good slogan. Can you spot the slogan the Australian children are taught in school?
Friday 26th June 2020
Good morning Year 4. Well another Friday has come around, and it seems that these final few weeks of term are racing by.
Well done to Panos and Ansh who have joined the Soundcheck crew on TT Rockstars.
English
Yesterday, your task was to plan your Alien newspaper report. As there are quite a few paragraphs to think about, I am going to set today’s work and then give you until next Wednesday to write your report. This means you could use today to finalise your plan and then write Mon – Wed next week.
I have attached a WAGOLL here to help you. Of course, you may ‘magpie’ parts from it, but do try and use some of your own vocabulary and ideas too. I would very much like to read your reports, so please don’t hesitate to send them to me at
Similarly, if you would like some input from me on your planning or first drafts, then do send them to me.
Maths
Today’s lesson is all about weight, with a little times table practise thrown in. Just a reminder that on the worksheet page, there is an arrow on the bottom of the slide which gives you access to all the activities. Unless you press this you only get the first slide of the activities which is a warm up.

Next week we will be having a science focus and perhaps a little more art.
Have a lovely weekend Year 4. Stay safe.
Thursday 25th June 2020
Good morning Year 4, I hope you are all coping with this incredible heat.
English
Today your English work is to plan a newspaper story from the details you have worked on so far. We are moving away from the original session for now, as I want you to focus on the newspaper report as you have had some practise with this already. Once we have written the newspaper report we will return to the other unit.
Attached is a planning sheet, which has some ideas from me, set out into different paragraphs. Your task is to add your own ideas in the final column. You may of course, magpie some of my ideas, but you need to add as much of your own input as possible.
Maths
Your maths work for today can be found at the link below. It is mixed measures problems.
https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/measures-mixed-measure-problems
Science
Today’s lesson is all about muscles and how they help us to move. It is the final session in our unit Animals including Humans – Skeletons.
https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cY1ZY35VGs
There are 3 levels of challenge in the final worksheets and a short video film to watch.
Finally, you might enjoy this song to help you remember what the muscles do!

Wednesday 24th June 2020
Bonjour Year 4, what another fabulous day on planet Earth! We should not take it for granted.
English
After your 5Ws work yesterday, you will be carrying on with your Alien writing.
https://www.talk4writing.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Y4-Maria-Aliens.pdf
Your task today is to write some quotes using the four characters that you wrote headlines about yesterday. We have used quotes in our Red Riding Hood report, so you are familiar with them, and it will be good practise for using accurate speech punctuation.
A special mention to Ansh who was interviewed as an Alien expert, with his website being sponsored by NASA. Great job Ansh!
Maths
I hope you got on well with the problem solving yesterday.
Today’s lesson is about problem solving with coins, but there is also a recap on fractions and general measures. The lesson can be found here:
https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/measures-money-coin-purse-challenge
Science
I will be posting the science lesson tomorrow.
TT Rockstars
Your maths challenge on Friday was to have a go at Soundcheck on TT Rockstars, to test your score. A big well done to Dede, Sophie, Shardae, Daisy and Zofia who have all completed the challenge. If you haven’t had a go yet, please do try, so I can see where you are.
