Today, you have a comprehension activity which is page 6.
Maths
I hope you all found the mass and capacity lesson OK from yesterday. Today’s work is solving measures problems, and can be found here:
https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/measures-solving-measures-problems
If you want to stretch yourself further, there are some mastery questions attached.
Science
This week’s science lesson is all about the functions of the skeleton.
If you follow the link below, there is a powerpoint that explains it and there are 3 worksheets to choose form.

Good morning Year 4. I hope you enjoyed the crossing the road powerpoint yesterday.
Today you are continuing with the Alien unit in English and measures in maths.
English
Today your focus will be on compound words, working on page 5. There is an explanation of what they are, and then you have to compose your own compound words which you could use for this text.
Maths
The next two units by the Oak Academy are converting between mm and cm, (https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/measures-converting-between-mm-and-cm) and converting between cm and m (https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/measures-converting-between-cm-and-m).
If you are happy with them and can compose your own conversion ‘wheel’ then you will complete lesson 4 today, which is capacity and mass.

Road Safety
Try this fun game to consolidate your learning about crossing the road.

Good morning Year 4, I hope you’ve had a great weekend.
Maths
Now we have completed our topic of Statistics, we are going to focus on measures for the next two weeks. We did start this in class, converting between km, cm and m, kg and g and we did some work on time. We have also done work on multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 or 1000, earlier in the year. Remember this is STRICTLY!! In other words you put the original number on a place value chart and move it left to make it bigger (multiply), right to make it smaller (divide). How many places (steps), depends on whether you are multiplying/dividing by 10, 100 or 1000. You should remember the link. (clue – look at the zeros).
This set of lessons takes you through the 3 different sets of measures that you need to know: length, mass and capacity. At the end you will be asked to use the bigger > and smaller < signs to order some everyday things into size order. The link to the first lesson can be found here:
https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/measures-choosing-appropriate-measures/activities/2
There is one comparison, that I would argue about – can you work out which one it is?
If you want to extend your learning, you can find some everyday objects in the house and (with your parent’s permission) weigh them. Also look at your recycling – find some unusually shaped containers, fill them with water and then pour this into a measuring jug to see exactly how much it holds. With both of these activities, estimate how much you think they will measure before you go on to measure it exactly. You should find that the more you do, the more accurate you become.
English
I hope you enjoyed the King of the Fishes tale that we worked on in the last Talk for Writing unit. Over the next two weeks, we will be working through another unit about Aliens. This is more of an information text, which then leads to you writing a newspaper report. You have written in the genre before – Little Red Riding Hood, so you are already familiar with the change of style necessary for a newspaper report type of text.
Today I would like you to work your way through the unit to page 4. The important thing for today, is that you understand the content of the text and the vocabulary. You can find the unit on the link below:
https://www.talk4writing.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Y4-Maria-Aliens.pdf
PSHCE
In the summer term in Year 4, we would normally learn how to cross the road safely. Obviously, with you not being in school, this is a little difficult! So, to make sure you don’t miss out we will be working through a range of activities this week with that theme.
Once you have worked your way through the video and slide show, I would like you to design a Road Safety poster for Year 2 children, incorporating what you have learned so far.

Spellings
Last week you looked at words that had the im and ill prefixes which make the root word have the opposite meaning. This week your words have the ir and in prefixes which have the same effect.
The wordsearch can be found here.
The word list can be found here.
Good Morning Year 4.
Well, this week seems to have raced past and here we are again on Friday!
English
For your English today, I would like you to edit your story. Please do check the list of ‘slow write’ sentences that you had to include and make sure that you have them all. Also, check your speech punctuation in particular, to make sure you have commas inside the speech marks or between the speech and narrative, as these are the most common errors.
Maths
Today you have some reasoning cards for Statistics.
French
Mme Elena has made a video for you to watch which you can find here:
https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cY1jo5CiDU
There is a worksheet to complete also.
As part of our PSHCE we would have been learning how to cross the road safely, had we been in school. With this in mind, I will be posting some road safety activities for you to complete next week, in addition to the maths, English and science.
Also, we would have been due to complete the government statutory times tables tests this month. Clearly this will not now go ahead, as we are not in school. However, TT Rock Stars has set up an alternative, so we can test ourselves and see just how good we are. As most of you did really well on the earlier trials we did, and have been practising, I will be posting the details next week, about how to complete the trial and would encourage you all to have a go.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs Dowdall
Good morning Year 4. I hope you are all well and not too soggy from all the rain we had yesterday! Today is just a short post.
English
Today you are going to continue with your story, making sure that you have included all the things on the 'slow-write' list, ready to edit tomorrow.
Maths
Here is today's activity, which is comprised of 3 levels of challenge - problem solving and reasoning cards for Statistics.
Some exciting news - Madame Elena has produced some French work for you for tomorrow which I will post then.
Have a good day and don't forget I would love to see some of your writing.
Take care
Mrs Dowdall
