Good Morning Year 4
Your maths work today is to read scales in litres and millilitres. There are 3 levels of Challenge and each challenge has 3 different sets of cylinders to read. There is also an extension.
For your English I am looking at an image on Literacy Shed, Images, it is the one with the alien creature standing in a stream in the middle of the forest.

Below is a WAGOLL for the introduction. You need to write at least 6 sentences. Similar to a slow write, these are the categories:
- Start with a short sentence for effect
- Use commas in a list
- Use powerful vocabulary and describe what could be seen/heard
- Use FANBOYS
- Start the sentence with a conjunction
- Finish with another short sentence
You can of course, continue with the story and if you like you can send them to me on the e-mail address provided on your work booklet.
1. Samir dare not breathe. 2. He leant against the solid trunk of the old, sturdy tree, hoping to become one with it. 3. Apart from the trickling sound of the water, as the enormous, towering beast bent down to wash its skeletal hands, there was silence. 4. Our hero wanted to take a better look, yet he was terrified that the creature would see him. 5. Although, he already had an inkling that the creature knew he was there. 6. Samir made a decision.
Good morning Year 4, I hope you are all well.
Today your work in English is a Reading Comprehension about Usain Bolt. There are 3 levels of challenge which can all be answered from the one text and all of them are detailed below.
Your maths today is coverting units of all the measurements we have covered so far. This will bring an end to our measurement unit, but that doesn't mean you have to stop telling the time, working out how much things weigh, or how much containers hold. This is a life skill that you can practise regularly.
I hope you have a lovely weekend. Stay safe and well and look out for next week's postings.

Good Morning Year 4!
I hope you’ve all had a good weekend.
Today we are starting a new topic in maths – Geometry, where we will be learning about angles, the names of different shapes and their properties and then whether those shapes are symmetrical and making symmetrical diagrams.
Over the next few weeks, your challenge will be to learn:
- The types of different angles
- What size their angles are
- Be able to order angles in terms of size
- Names of different shapes
- The properties that each shape has
- How many angles they have
- Whether they are symmetrical
- Creating symmetrical diagrams
To start with you are going to learn about different angles.
So an angle is a measure of turn.
STAND IN A ROOM IN YOUR HOUSE FACING A WINDOW, WITH YOUR ARMS OUTSTRETCHED.
MOVE YOU BODY TO THE RIGHT, BUT KEEP YOUR LEFT ARM FACING THE WINDOW (THE ORIGINAL DIRECTION). YOUR ARMS HAVE NOW CREATED AN ANGLE.
Now watch this video which explains the different types of angles.

You do not need a protractor for today’s activity, instead if you have some greaseproof paper or tissue paper at home you can compare the angles by copying one on to your paper and then laying the copied angle over the top of a different one on your sheet. This should allow you to be able to decide which of two angles is bigger, if they are close in size.
English
In our English so far this year, we have already used the thesaurus to choose stronger adjectives and more powerfuly verbs for our writing. Today we are going to look back at adjectives and using the word bank (challenge 1) on the document , choose some powerful adjectives to complete the sentences. Even though you may not use some of the words on the sheet, it would be good practise to find out the meanings of the words and try and remeber them for pieces of writing in the future.
If you don;t have a thesaurus at home, there are various online versions available. Ask an adult to help you search for them.
Good Morning Year 4.
I thought after all the mind boggling details about different types of triangle and quadrilateral, you might need a day of something different to give your brains a bit of a rest! So today, your maths work is to log on to TT Rockstars and do a session against the clock. I will be checking on Friday, so please make sure that you do log on to the site.
For your English today, there is a reading comprehension about Anansi the spider.
I hope you enjoy the story! The story and questions are below.
Good morning Year 4.
I hope you’ve all had a good weekend and continue to stay well and safe.
Are any of you following Joe Wicks in the morning?
Today, in maths, we are looking at the 3 different types of triangle: equilateral, isosceles and scalene. Once you have learned the properties of the three types (sides, vertices and angles) you have a sheet showing different types and you have to say which type they are.
Just so you are aware, you don’t have to download the sheet to write on the sheet itself. As long as you can see the sheet, just write the number of the triangle and the type in your book. Do make sure though, that you date your work in your exercise book and write the name of the activity that you are doing, just as you would at school.
Below is the web address of an animation from BBC Bitesize which goes through the different types with you.

For all you budding rock stars out there, below is a link to a song which will help you remember the different types. I hope you enjoy learning it.

In English we are going to be focusing on the grammar side of things this week.
You should already know the different types of word groups e.g. nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs etc but to make sure we will go over each type and see how they are used.
Remember – NOUN – an object, place or thing. If it is the name of something, then it will be a proper noun and needs a capital letter. Potters Bar, Ladbrooke School, Watkins Rise, Samuel, Janet.
Look at this page on BBC bitesize. Don’t be put off because is says KS1 – as many of you don’t use capital letters for proper nouns in your writing, it will be good revision.

Follow through all of the activities on the page. Once you have done this, choose a paragraph from your reading book and identify the different types of nouns in three columns, like this:
Common nouns |
Proper nouns (people) |
Proper nouns (Places) |
